Old Stables Manor House

Old Stables English Cottage House Plan
Old Stables Manor House

Our "Old Stables" Manor House conveys the feeling of a Cotswold estate attached to out buildings resulting from years of additions necessary to run a thriving country property. It is similar in materials, color, and massing to those found in this ancient area west of London. Its tall chimneys and turreted stair tower, half-timbering and steep roofs evoke a feeling of an era gone by.  An arched gateway reminiscent of those that horse-drawn carriages would enter through links the garage and guest quarters above to the rest of the house.  At 5,315 square feet, this house would be an ideal "country estate" for some lucky owner.

A cozy vestibule tucked in beside an inviting stair tower greets visitors as they approach the front door.  Upon entering the house, one is immediately struck with an elegant and stately foyer of stone running the length of the great room beyond.  Four pairs of columns punctuate the space and provide a visual separation between the two areas while maintaining a light filled, open, airy feeling.  This is further enhanced by the vaulted ceiling of the family room and balcony above.  A fireplace centered on the space is a great focal point of the room.  Three pairs of French doors face the covered porch and garden beyond.

The ground floor is extremely functional with a centrally placed great space for entertaining and more formal living.  The kitchen, family room with second fireplace, and dining room are to one side with easy access to the foyer and great room.  A large master suite and connecting study is on the opposite side of the house for the ultimate in privacy and convenience.  French doors provide direct access from the master suite to the covered porch and garden.  An added feature, the bright and spacious conservatory, has access from the family room, living room and covered porch and faces the privacy of the gardens to the rear of the house.  A detached, three car garage is linked to the main house by a covered breezeway.

The impressive circular stair winds up to the gallery overlooking the great room below further enhancing the sense of space and grandeur.  Three bedrooms and an activity area are located to either side of the gallery connecting the spaces.  A large bonus room lies beyond, over the garage.  This space is large enough to contain a sizable bedroom and bath for additional space. or would work well as an office or media room.  A centrally located elevator provides additional access to all areas.
