The Willows (A "Cotswold Classic")

 

Our Cotswold Classic, The Willows, is modeled after so many typical Cotswold residences in communities like Burford, Kingham, Broadway, and Upper and Lower Slaughter. This area west of London seems to belong to another age where fine homes, large and small, had a charm that is hard to find anywhere else. The buttery tan stone so prevalent in the Cotswolds gives these houses a delightful, warm color and texture. Dark wood detailing and flagstone accents have a satisfying appeal.

 

The Willows, brings to mind these cozy cottages with its "ancient added wings" and push pull facade created over time. Small out buildings such as the garage are also typical of Cotswold design and give the feeling of a farmhouse or town home with storage and equipment facilities adjacent to the main house.

 

Right away, our Willows home says graceful living in a simple, Cotswold style. The sections of the house are evident from the massing that goes in stages from large to small depending on the function inside. This adds interests and does not overwhelm, but rather understates a house of 3,300 square feet.

 

On entering the foyer, a high, two story ceiling lighted by dormers front and back. The stair rises off the slate floor and is topped by a balcony overlooking from above. Just beyond the foyer, straight ahead is the large master suite and bath with tub and walk-in shower, walk-in closet and separate his and hers vanities. A bank of French doors leads directly to the terrace.

 

To the left, a large dining room with box bay window and coffered ceiling face the front. The functional kitchen is steps away and serves the dining and living area directly from two doors. The large island serves as an eating bar and cooking surface with stove and overhead vent hood. Cabinets all the way around, pantry and closet offer plenty of storage for food, dishes and utensils. A window allows for a good view of the front while the over sink window keeps you in touch with what is happening on the side. An open eating bar or island separates the kitchen from the breakfast area with its wrap around glass walls opening to the terrace for outside dining.

 

To the right, as cozy study with corner fireplace is the perfect spot to get some desk work done or catch up on the bills! It has a very convenient, private access to the master bath.

 

The great room is just off the dining room and separated by the fireplace and walk through on either side. Expansive glass windows in the rear are flanked by French doors providing two ways to access the terrace. This large space is ideal for semi-formal living or casual family gatherings by the fire and furniture groupings for any lifestyle.

At the top of the stairs, a loft set into a large shed dormer with lots of windows overlooks the foyer below. This area can be for study, crafts, or just lounging with a good book. Two comfortable bedrooms with private baths and walk-in closets are just down the hall. Each bedroom is full of natural light with large casement windows facing the front and back and a large double hung window allows views to the side opposite the bed. A walk-in closet for linens and storage is between the two bedrooms.
