Campden English Cottage House Plan
Campden Cottage

The late-medieval Cotswold cottage style is known for its simplicity and restraint. Buttery, tan field stone, lack of ornamentation, and subtle details make these homes under-statedly elegant. Cotswold houses usually had no roof overhangs, and chimneys were more simple that those of Tudor styles. Large blocks of limestone often served as lintels above doors and windows. Our Campden Cottage attempts to emulate the same design elegance and simplicity of the traditional Cotswold cottage, while offering surprising elegance inside with a plan designed around today's lifestyles.

A small, welcoming vestibule greets visitors to the Campden Cottage before opening into a lovely stone floored foyer.  Two steps below to the right, a stately great room with fireplace flanked by a wall of book shelves looks through a pair of French doors out to the stone terrace beyond.  The high, vaulted ceiling is punctuated by tall dormers with leaded glass that allow the sun to stream in below.  Rough-hewn rafters add character and scale.

To the left of the foyer, the luxurious master suite features its own fireplace, built in shelving, his and her's walk in closets and a sumptuous bath with tub and large shower.  Its location to the front of the house, off the foyer assure privacy and quiet.  The dining room opens two steps above the great room and is open to both it and the generous kitchen with entertaining island, eating bar and fireplace!

The stairs wind to the second floor where they overlook the foyer below with a vaulted ceiling and small dormer.  The two matching bedrooms above share a bath with private sinks and generous walk-in closets.  Each has a large bay of casement windows at one end and nine foot ceilings.

Come home to Campden Cottage!

We have modified our Campden Cottage to offer more space with a full basement and connected two garage. This version which we call the Campden Cottage "B" brings features that take advantage of space below and adjacant to our original model. An optional covered porch extends beyond the dining room to add to the functionality of the terrace. A re-configured bay window in the master bedroom adds floor space and light replacing the box bay in the original.

The basement level offers a 17'x19' Media room, a 14'x16' ft. exercise or entertainment area, mechanical room, and two large storage rooms that could be utilized for work areas, wine cellar, play room, craft rooms, and many other uses. This area also connects conveniently to the garage with an interior stair.

The added two car garage is 25'x36'-9" with a large work area and dedicated entrance off the side for convenient access from the garden.
